Desaru Coast and Boxxtomoi Asia unveil Coastal Combat 2026

Desaru Coast, together with Boxxtomoi Asia, will launch Coastal Combat 2026 this January, an international Muaythai weekend that kick-starts the 2026 events calendar and supports the Visit Johor 2026 campaign. The initiative strengthens Desaru Coast’s position as a regional multi-sport and events destination, blending combat sports with a scenic coastal resort environment.

The weekend festival will feature markets, activities and entertainment for families, highlighting the destination’s ability to host world-class sporting events, corporate gatherings and leisure experiences within one integrated venue. The main event, set for 23–24 January, brings together fighters from five countries and is expected to draw up to 300,000 YouTube viewers, boosting Desaru Coast and Johor’s sports tourism profile.

Event partners emphasised Coastal Combat’s significance for Malaysian Muaythai, noting its official sanctioning under Persatuan Muaythai Malaysia. The programme aims to elevate the sport through strong governance, athlete welfare and a new reality-show format that blends competition, storytelling and destination tourism. Filmed across Desaru Coast’s resorts, the four-episode series showcases the athletes’ training journey and the destination’s growing appeal as a coastal sports hub.

Alongside athlete introductions and beach sports challenges, the event reinforced Desaru Coast’s expanding role as a premier venue for multisport and MICE events. From endurance races to watersports festivals and now combat sports, Desaru Coast continues to evolve as a versatile stage for global events where sports, tourism and business converge.
