Flood evacuees increase in six states with Terengganu hitting 10,399 people, while three northern states show improvement in flood situation.
KUALA LUMPUR: Flood evacuee numbers continued to climb across six states this morning, with Terengganu surpassing the 10,000 mark.
Terengganu recorded the most significant increase, with evacuees rising to 10,399 people from 3,188 families as of 8 am.
Kemaman district hosted the highest number of displaced residents at 2,517 people across 27 temporary relief centres.
Ten river stations across Terengganu have exceeded danger levels, including Sungai Nerus in Kampung Bukit and Sungai Kemaman in Rumah Paya Paman.
In Selangor, evacuee numbers increased to 4,141 people from 1,132 families across 31 relief centres in five districts.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations deputy director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar reported one person believed drowned while attempting to swim across a river in Sepang.
“A search-and-rescue operation is underway,” he said, adding that five firefighters were deployed after receiving the call at 11.30 pm.
Perak recorded 6,507 evacuees across 47 relief centres, with Manjung district housing the highest number at 2,271 people.
Pahang’s evacuee count climbed to 2,387 people, with six rivers exceeding danger levels including Luit River in Kampung Subuh.
Negeri Sembilan reported 375 evacuees across seven relief centres in five districts.
Melaka’s flood situation worsened with evacuees increasing to 298 people from 86 families.
Three northern states showed improvement, with Perlis evacuees dropping to 6,869 and Kedah decreasing to 3,452 people.
Kelantan recorded 3,000 evacuees across 18 relief centres, down from 3,448 people the previous night.
Two flood-related deaths have been reported so far, including one non-citizen. – Bernama
