Petron refinery jetty damaged by tropical storm, operations halted

Petron’s Port Dickson refinery jetty partially collapsed during Tropical Storm Senyar, forcing temporary operations halt but ensuring fuel supply continuity.

PORT DICKSON: Petron Malaysia Refining and Marketing Bhd’s Product Jetty at its Port Dickson Refinery has been damaged and partially collapsed during Tropical Storm Senyar.

The incident occurred on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the offshore facility located in Negeri Sembilan.

All eight personnel on board the jetty were safely evacuated and are confirmed to be safe and well.

PMRMB confirmed there was no oil spill at sea following the partial collapse.

The jetty serves as a crucial facility for receiving and discharging refined products between the refinery and tanker vessels.

Consequently, the Port Dickson Refinery will temporarily halt operations in the coming days.

This suspension means the refinery cannot receive and process incoming crude oil.

However, PMRMB has activated its Business Continuity Plan to ensure continuous supply of finished petroleum products.

Supply continuity will be maintained through service stations via additional importation and alternative supply channels.

The company is currently assessing immediate alternative means to address the situation.

PMRMB aims to normalise refinery operations as soon as possible.

The company stated it will make further disclosures as necessary regarding the incident.

PMRMB is still evaluating the cost of repairs and overall financial impact.

Tropical Storm Senyar was detected north of Sumatra on November 27.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department had issued warnings about the storm’s approach.

The storm was located about 102 kilometres southwest of Lumut, Perak, before moving southeast.

It entered the Straits of Malacca waters and headed towards western Peninsular Malaysia at approximately 24 km/h. – Bernama
