Juventus advanced to the Italian Cup last eight with a 2-0 win over Udinese, courtesy of an own goal and a Manuel Locatelli penalty
JUVENTUS secured a place in the Italian Cup quarter-finals with a 2-0 victory over Udinese at the Allianz Stadium on Tuesday.
The hosts took the lead after 23 minutes through an unfortunate own goal from Udinese’s 17-year-old defender Matteo Palma.
Palma beat Jonathan David to a Weston McKennie cross but could only turn the ball into his own net.
The Berlin-born Italian youth international then conceded a penalty by fouling McKennie in the 67th minute.
Midfielder Manuel Locatelli calmly converted the spot-kick to double Juventus’s advantage.
The match, which opened the cup’s round of 16, saw the two teams manage just two shots on target between them.
Napoli and Inter Milan are scheduled to play their home ties on Wednesday.
Cup holders Bologna will host Parma on Thursday, while Serie A leaders AC Milan visit Lazio.
The final last-16 tie between Roma and Torino is set for January 13. – AFP
