Mixed doubles world champions Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei will captain Malaysia’s men’s and women’s badminton teams at the SEA Games 2025
KUALA LUMPUR: National mixed doubles world champions Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei have been appointed captains of Malaysia’s badminton teams for the SEA Games Thailand 2025.
National doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky announced the appointments during the squad’s flag handover ceremony.
Tang Jie, a gold medallist at the 2021 Games, said the role is a source of motivation.
“Thank you, coach Rexy, for giving me this responsibility,” he told reporters.
Ee Wei said she is honoured by the trust placed in her.
The 25-year-old said her priority is to support and motivate her teammates throughout the team event.
The Badminton Association of Malaysia is fielding its strongest lineups for the biennial Games.
The squad includes 2022 men’s doubles world champions Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik.
It also features 2025 World Championships runners-up Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah in women’s doubles.
Leong Jun Hao and Justin Hoh will compete in men’s singles, with K. Letshanaa and Wong Ling Ching in women’s singles.
Other pairs are Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun (men’s doubles), Go Pei Kee-Teoh Mei Xing (women’s doubles), and Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin (mixed doubles).
All listed players will also compete in their respective team events.
They will be aided by Eogene Ewe and Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin in the men’s team event.
Siti Zulaikha Muhammad Azmi and Eng Ler Qi will support the women’s team event.
The SEA Games Thailand 2025 will be held in Bangkok and Chonburi provinces. – Bernama
