Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim directs police to conduct open investigations into the Durian Tunggal shooting and deaths in custody cases
CYBERJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has ordered transparent and detailed investigations into the recent shooting incident in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, and cases of deaths in police custody.
Anwar said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) must conduct these probes openly without protecting any party.
He stated that the Cabinet supports the police’s firm stance against criminals and lawbreakers.
However, he stressed that every complaint of misconduct or procedural violation must be investigated thoroughly.
“I have directed the Inspector-General of Police to continue the investigations transparently and without protecting anyone,” Anwar told reporters after Friday prayers.
He added that the government does not shield criminals but also will not protect actions by police personnel that violate the rule of law.
Anwar spoke after performing prayers with about 1,500 congregants at the Cyberjaya 10 Mosque. – Bernama
