Selangor Sultan attends religious ceremony for 80th birthday

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah marked his 80th birthday with a Yasin recital and tahlil ceremony at a Shah Alam mosque

SHAH ALAM: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, attended a special religious ceremony today in conjunction with his 80th birthday.

The event at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque featured a Yasin recital, tahlil, and doa selamat led by Selangor Mufti Datuk Dr Anhar Opir.

His Royal Highness was joined by the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

They were welcomed by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and the mosque’s Grand Imam, Datuk Muhammad Farhan Wijaya.

Approximately 1,000 congregants attended the ceremony, including state leaders and security force personnel.

Following the prayers, Sultan Sharafuddin performed Friday prayers at the mosque.

The sermon, delivered by Muhammad Farhan, was titled ‘Kesejahteraan Ummah di Bawah Naungan Sultan Berdaulat’.

It explained that in Islam, the sultanate is a pillar of justice within the governance system.

The sermon highlighted the Sultan’s role as Ulil Amr, bearing responsibility for safeguarding religion and uniting the people.

It concluded by reminding people to appreciate this role and support the state’s development efforts.

The gathering also prayed for the continued well-being of Sultan Sharafuddin and his subjects. – Bernama
