A father and daughter duo were admitted as barristers and solicitors together at the High Court of Malaya in a historic and emotional ceremony
KUALA LUMPUR: A lifelong passion for law led Shamsul Azlan Mohd Noor, 55, to finally realise his dream of becoming a lawyer.
The historic moment was made even more special as he was admitted as a barrister and solicitor alongside his 24-year-old daughter, Zeti Akhtar Nabilah.
“I never expected to be admitted as a barrister and solicitor alongside my daughter,” Shamsul Azlan told Bernama.
He added that studying law was driven by passion and described the joint admission as a historic moment and part of Allah’s plan.
High Court Judge Azlan Sulaiman presided over the ceremony and approved their admission petitions.
The approvals followed confirmations of no objection from the Attorney General’s Department, the Malaysian Bar Council, and the Selangor Bar Committee.
Shamsul Azlan earned a Bachelor of Laws from Universiti Teknologi MARA in 2002, the year his daughter turned one.
He completed his chambering at Messrs Hasbullah Mohamad & Co on November 3, 2025, and also holds a Bachelor of Economics from Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia.
“Learning is never a waste,” said Shamsul Azlan, who is a member of the UiTM Alumni Federation Executive Council.
He encouraged young people to pursue knowledge at any age, citing the Islamic principle of seeking knowledge from cradle to grave.
Meanwhile, Zeti Akhtar expressed her gratitude and joy at sharing the admission ceremony with her father.
She admitted she initially thought he was joking about finishing his chambering and was surprised they were called to the bar together. – Bernama
