Police are investigating death threats made on social media against a lawyer representing a case linked to a fatal shooting in Melaka
KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating allegations of death threats made on social media against a lawyer involved in a high-profile shooting case.
Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Shamsudin Mamat said the lawyer lodged a report yesterday after reading a threatening comment online.
“The comment contained elements of a death threat believed to be linked to a case he was representing,” Shamsudin stated in a statement today.
The lawyer’s statement was recorded last night, and the case is being probed under Section 507 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Shamsudin advised the public to refrain from speculation or spreading unverified information.
The threats are linked to a lawyer representing interests connected to a shooting in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, on November 24.
Three men, aged 24 to 29, were killed in that incident after one allegedly slashed a police corporal with a machete.
Police stated the men were reportedly on their way to commit a robbery at an oil palm plantation.
On December 4, Bukit Aman CID director Datuk M Kumar announced a task force was formed to investigate claims by the men’s families.
The families have expressed dissatisfaction with the police’s actions, rejecting claims the men acted aggressively. – Bernama
