Government redeploys specialist doctors and police to frontline services

380 specialist doctors and 611 police officers reassigned from headquarters to hospitals, clinics and stations under people-centric service agenda

PUTRAJAYA: The government is strengthening public service delivery by redeploying medical officers and police personnel to locations with greater need.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said a review found many specialists were stationed at the Health Ministry’s headquarters instead of hospitals and clinics.

“We found that many specialists were not serving in hospitals or clinics but were based at the ministry,” he said at the National Public Service Reform Convention 2025.

He stated the initiative is part of a people-centric services agenda to mobilise expertise back to the frontline.

Between 2024 and 2025, a total of 380 doctors have been placed at clinics and hospitals.

During the same period, 611 police officers previously attached to Bukit Aman have been reassigned to district and state police stations.

Shamsul Azri said the move aims to ensure professional expertise is utilised optimally for public benefit.

Speaking at a forum, he emphasised tasks must be guided by official documents and procedures, not just long-standing practices.

“What is important is to understand what is contained in reference documents clearly,” he said.

He noted a tendency among staff to follow familiar routines that may not align with actual work regulations.

“Common practice is not necessarily correct and often does not adhere to the actual work process,” he added.

Another panellist, Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali, said civil servants should be driven by duty, joy and passion.

He said duty involves applying one’s abilities for the good of the organisation.

Joy relates to working sincerely without coercion, while passion reflects love for one’s work.

The convention was held alongside the three-day Rancakkan MADANI Bersama Malaysiaku programme.

The event offers over 300 touchpoint services, a career carnival and interactive exhibitions.

It serves as the administration’s annual platform for reporting its achievements directly to the people. – Bernama
