Crystal Palace climb to fourth with late win, Brighton snatch draw against West Ham

Crystal Palace move into the Premier League’s top four with a late victory at Fulham, while Brighton’s stoppage-time leveller denies West Ham

LONDON: Crystal Palace rose to fourth in the Premier League with a dramatic 2-1 victory at Fulham on Sunday.

Marc Guehi headed a late winner in the 87th minute to seal a fourth win in six league games for Oliver Glasner’s side.

The result lifted Palace above Chelsea and Everton into the Champions League qualification places.

Eddie Nketiah had given the visitors a 20th-minute lead with a clinical finish from Adam Wharton’s pass.

Fulham equalised before half-time through a sublime curled effort from Harry Wilson.

The home side thought they had taken the lead through Emile Smith Rowe, but his goal was disallowed for offside after a VAR review.

Palace capitalised on that reprieve to snatch all three points through Guehi’s powerful header.

“It makes me proud because the team did not want to defend the draw, we wanted to win and that’s why we got it in the end,” Glasner said.

At the Amex Stadium, Brighton rescued a 1-1 draw against West Ham with a stoppage-time equaliser from Georginio Rutter.

Jarrod Bowen had put West Ham ahead in the 73rd minute with a low shot from an acute angle.

The goal came after Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke’s poor back-header was intercepted by Callum Wilson.

West Ham appeared set to climb out of the relegation zone until Rutter’s late intervention.

The French forward scored from close range after a goalmouth scramble in added time.

West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo was furious, claiming Rutter had handled the ball in the build-up.

“It’s not ‘appears’, it’s clear,” said Nuno. “I saw it, everybody saw it. We cannot understand how they gave the goal.”

The draw leaves West Ham in 18th place, two points from safety.
