Police are investigating possible negligence after a five-year-old girl drowned in a Lenggeng clubhouse pool, with the case being probed under the Child Act.
LENGGENG: Police are investigating elements of neglect in the death of a five-year-old girl found unconscious in a clubhouse pool here last Saturday.
Nilai district police chief Supt Johari Yahya said statements have been recorded from five individuals, including the child’s parents and her 15-year-old sister.
“The investigation found that the child was bathing in the pool without adult supervision,” he told reporters today.
He confirmed the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for neglect.
An autopsy at Rembau Hospital confirmed the child died from drowning.
Johari said police will submit the investigation papers to the Deputy Public Prosecutor soon.
He advised parents to always supervise their children near or in pools to prevent untoward incidents.
The incident occurred at about 12.15 pm last Saturday.
Nur Dhiya Azzalea Noor Mohamad was found unconscious in the pool before members of the public performed CPR while waiting for an ambulance.
Initial investigations found the victim had disappeared from her mother’s sight while attending a kindergarten programme at the clubhouse.
