Tottenham investigate Bissouma after second ‘laughing gas’ report

Spurs manager Thomas Frank confirms the club is dealing with Yves Bissouma internally after new nitrous oxide allegations emerged.

LONDON: Tottenham Hotspur are investigating midfielder Yves Bissouma following a report alleging he inhaled nitrous oxide.

Manager Thomas Frank confirmed the club is treating it as an internal matter after footage emerged in The Sun newspaper.

This marks the second such incident for Bissouma in as many seasons.

The 29-year-old Mali international received a one-match ban at the start of the 2024/25 campaign for a previous “severe lack of judgement” involving the substance.

Nitrous oxide, known as ‘laughing gas’, was classified as a Class C drug in England in 2023.

Recreational possession is now a criminal offence.

Frank addressed the issue ahead of Tottenham’s Champions League tie against Slavia Prague.

“It’s an internal matter that we are dealing with at the moment and when we have dealt with that, then I will comment on it,” he said.

Bissouma has not played under Frank since being dropped in August for repeated lateness.

He underwent ankle surgery in October and was already ruled out of the Slavia Prague match.

Frank also confirmed left-back Destiny Udogie will be sidelined until January with a hamstring injury.

Forward Randal Kolo Muani, however, trained on Monday after an earlier scare.

Tottenham’s recent 2-0 win over Brentford ended a near four-month wait for a home Premier League victory.

Frank hopes the result can build momentum for more consistent performances.

He declined to comment on Tottenham’s chances of a top-eight finish in their Champions League group. – AFP
