US President Donald Trump says he will make a phone call to stop renewed fighting between Thailand and Cambodia over their contested border.
WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said he plans to intervene diplomatically in renewed border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia.
During a rally in Pennsylvania, Trump listed global conflicts before noting, “And I hate to say this, one named Cambodia-Thailand, that it started up today.”
“Tomorrow, I have to make a phone call, and I think they’ll get it,” he told supporters.
The President questioned, “Who else could say, ‘I’m going to make a phone call and stop a war of two very powerful countries’?”
The clashes have prompted evacuations along the contested frontier.
The long-running dispute centres on a century-old border disagreement mapped during France’s colonial rule.
Both nations claim a number of boundary temples in the area.
