Conway’s unbeaten fifty steadies New Zealand reply in Wellington Test

Devon Conway hits an unbeaten fifty as New Zealand reach 112-2 at lunch, trailing West Indies by 93 runs in the second Test in Wellington

DEVON CONWAY scored an unbeaten half-century to guide New Zealand to 112-2 at lunch on day two of the second Test against the West Indies.

Conway was 55 not out at the interval, having struck eight boundaries, with Rachin Ravindra on five at the other end.

New Zealand resumed at 24-0 and reduced their first-innings deficit to 93 in reply to the West Indies’ total of 205.

The hosts lost captain Tom Latham early, bowled by Kemar Roach for 11.

Kane Williamson then joined Conway and steadied the innings with a brisk 37 from 46 balls, hitting seven fours.

Conway was given a life on 28 when Shai Hope dropped a difficult chance at leg slip.

The pair added 67 for the second wicket before Williamson was bowled by an unplayable swinging delivery from Anderson Phillip just before lunch.

In a blow for New Zealand, the team confirmed seam bowler Blair Tickner dislocated his shoulder on day one.

Tickner, who took a career-best 4-32 on Tuesday, will not bowl or field again in the match and was taken to hospital.

He will only bat if absolutely necessary for the remainder of the Test. – AFP
