Man found dead after Mont Kiara condominium fire

A man with burns was found dead on a balcony after a fire at a Mont Kiara condominium, with firefighting hampered by a faulty building system

KUALA LUMPUR: A man was found dead following a fire at a condominium unit in Mont Kiara last night.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department confirmed the victim was discovered on the unit’s balcony with burns all over his body.

A medical team at the scene pronounced the man dead.

The department’s operations centre received an emergency call at 8.46 pm.

Personnel from the Sri Hartamas, Menjalara, Sentul and Taman Tun Dr Ismail fire stations were dispatched to the location.

Firefighting operations were hampered by the building’s malfunctioning fire prevention system.

The team was forced to use two portable water pumps and a fire engine pump to channel water to the affected unit.

The blaze was finally extinguished at 2.03 am.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. – Bernama
