EPF and Immigration Department boost foreign worker compliance through data sharing

EPF and Immigration Department integrate systems to enforce mandatory contributions for foreign workers, with 1.3 million already registered

KUALA LUMPUR: The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and the Immigration Department have integrated their systems to share data on foreign workers’ valid passes.

This strategic collaboration supports the enforcement of mandatory EPF contributions for non-Malaysian workers, which began on October 1.

The partnership enables more accurate and secure verification of Temporary Employment Visit Passes (PLKS) and Employment Passes.

It aims to enhance enforcement capabilities by strengthening data flows and system efficiency.

To date, approximately 60,000 employers have registered 1.3 million foreign workers for contributions.

The EPF stated this data indicates a positive response from compliant employers.

However, some employers have still failed to comply with the mandatory contribution requirements.

This non-compliance affects the social protection of their non-Malaysian employees.

The EPF reminded non-compliant employers to act to avoid penalties and legal action.

EPF chief operating officer Sazaliza Zainuddin said the collaboration would expedite worker registration.

He stated it enhances the ability to verify workers’ status and strengthens transparency.

“This collaboration marks an important step towards ensuring that national policies are implemented with greater discipline, integrity and operational excellence,” he said.

Sazaliza added it ultimately delivers long-term benefits to the entire employment ecosystem.

The collaboration note was signed during the Home Ministry’s monthly assembly in Putrajaya. – Bernama
