Phase 2 SSPA salary adjustment for civil servants starts in January

Civil servants under SSPA will receive their Phase 2 pay rise in January, with payments based on their final salary on December 31.

KUALA LUMPUR: The second phase of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) salary adjustment will be paid in the January payroll.

Public Service Department (JPA) Remuneration Policy Division deputy director Mohd Shahir Shaari said the increase takes effect from January 1 but will be paid on the designated salary day of January 22.

The adjustment is a continuation of the SSPA wage increase announced in 2024.

Officers in the Implementation and Management and Professional Group (P&P) will receive a further 7% increase.

Those in the Top Management Group (KPT) will receive an additional 3%.

In the first phase, P&P officers received an 8% increase and KPT officers received 4%, paid from December 2024.

Mohd Shahir said eligibility requires opting into SSPA and being in public service on both December 31 this year and January 1 next year.

Those who did not opt for SSPA or who leave service before January 1 are not eligible for the adjustment.

Officers retiring on January 1, whose last day is December 31, will not receive the salary adjustment but will get a pension adjustment instead.

For officers who pass away on January 1, the salary adjustment will be granted and their dependants’ pension will be adjusted accordingly.

He clarified that the Phase 2 adjustment is not linked to the MyPERFORMANCE annual appraisal system.

Scoring below 75% in MyPERFORMANCE does not affect eligibility for next month’s pay rise.

However, the annual salary increment is affected, requiring a minimum score of 75%.

“Civil servants should ensure they achieve at least 75%,” Mohd Shahir said.

“That way, they can enjoy both the Phase 2 salary adjustment and the annual increment.”

He advised that the popular SSPA calculator is only a general reference.

Actual salaries will be confirmed based on individual service records and salary book entries.

Civil servants were advised to rely on verified sources like their departments or JPA for accurate information.

Mohd Shahir reminded staff to improve productivity and motivation following the government’s consideration of salary increases.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the civil service salary increase of over 13% in May 2024.

The increase, one of the highest in the nation’s history, began in December 2024.
