A man who surrendered and confessed to killing his wife at their Seberang Jaya apartment has been remanded for seven days to assist police investigations.
BUKIT MERTAJAM: A man has been remanded for seven days following his surrender and confession to murdering his wife at their apartment in Seberang Jaya.
The Bukit Mertajam Magistrate’s Court issued the remand order from today until December 18 to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Seberang Perai Tengah police chief ACP Helmi Aris said the man turned himself in at 11.30 am yesterday.
A police team later found the victim’s fully-clothed body on a mattress in a room at the Jalan Tuna apartment.
“The forensics team from the Penang Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Department conducted investigations at the scene,” Helmi said.
He added that the team took samples and found a knife believed to have been used in the incident.
Police are still investigating the motive for the killing.
The victim’s body has been sent to the Seberang Jaya Hospital Forensics Unit for a post-mortem.
Helmi urged anyone with information to contact the SPT police headquarters or any nearby police station.
Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail yesterday confirmed investigations were underway.
He said a 28-year-old man surrendered and confessed to killing his wife four days ago in Seberang Jaya.
