Liverpool boss Slot to hold talks with unhappy Salah over future

Liverpool manager Arne Slot will hold talks with Mohamed Salah on Friday, amid the forward’s public unhappiness over his recent lack of starts.

LIVERPOOL manager Arne Slot said he would speak with Mohamed Salah on Friday morning before deciding on the forward’s availability for this weekend’s match against Brighton.

The Egypt international accused the club of throwing him “under the bus” after being benched for last week’s 3-3 draw at Leeds.

Salah also stated he had no relationship with the Dutch manager when speaking to reporters after that match.

The 33-year-old was omitted from the squad for Tuesday’s Champions League win at Inter Milan, later posting a gym picture alone at the training ground.

“I will have a conversation with Mo this morning — the outcome of that conversation determines how things will look tomorrow,” Slot told his pre-match press conference.

He added that future discussions about the player should be held privately.

Slot confirmed there have been many conversations between the player’s representatives and the club since early December.

The manager batted away further questions but stated, “I have no reasons not wanting him to stay.”

Salah signed a new two-year contract in April, making him one of the Premier League’s highest-paid players.

He is due to join the Egypt squad for the Africa Cup of Nations after Saturday’s game.

His absence length depends on Egypt’s progress in the tournament, which concludes on January 18.

Salah is third in Liverpool’s all-time scoring charts with 250 goals in 420 appearances.

He has won two Premier League titles and the Champions League during his time at Anfield.

The forward scored 29 league goals last season as Liverpool won the title.

This season, he has managed just four league goals in 13 appearances.

Liverpool are 10th in the table after winning just two of their past 10 Premier League games.

Salah has been linked with a potential move to the lucrative Saudi Pro League.
