Nani Sahirah smashes national record to win SEA Games shot put gold

Malaysian shot putter Nani Sahirah Maryata wins gold at the 2025 SEA Games, breaking her own national record with a throw of 16.36 metres.

NATIONAL shot putter Nani Sahirah Maryata delivered a stunning performance to win gold and smash the national record at the 2025 SEA Games.

The 24-year-old secured victory with a throw of 16.36 metres on her second attempt at the Suphachalasai Stadium.

Her mark erased the previous national record of 15.39m, which she had set at the Perlis Open Athletics Championship last year.

Thailand’s Areerat Intadis claimed the silver medal with a distance of 16.04m.

Vietnam’s Huyen Thi Kim took bronze with a throw of 15.92m.

Nani Sahirah’s gold marked a significant improvement from the bronze medal she won at her SEA Games debut in Cambodia two years ago.

Earlier, Grace Wong Xiu Mei had won the first athletics gold for Malaysia in the women’s hammer throw.

The national athletics camp also secured a bronze medal in the men’s 110m hurdles.

Mohamad Armin Zahryl Abdul Latif finished third with a personal best time of 13.85 seconds.

The gold in that event went to the Philippines’ John Christopher Tolentino, who set a new Games record of 13.66s.

Singapore’s Chen Xiang Ang won silver with a time of 13.75s.

Malaysia failed to defend the gold in the men’s 400m event.

Reigning champion Umar Osman finished fifth with a time of 47.13 seconds.

Thailand’s Joshua Robert Atkinson won the gold medal with a time of 45.13s.

Vietnam’s Ta Ngoc Tuong took silver in 45.53s, while his compatriot Le Ngoc Phuc secured bronze in 46.21s.
