Deputy PM Fadillah Yusof orders a thorough investigation into a crane collapse at a Johor power plant that killed two workers and injured three

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has ordered a thorough and transparent investigation into a deadly crane collapse at a Johor power plant.

The incident occurred at the Malakoff Power Plant in Jalan Tanjung Bin, Kukup, Pontian, on Friday afternoon.

Fadillah urged the Department of Occupational Safety and Health and the police to cooperate with the Energy Commission and technical agencies to determine the cause.

He stressed there should be no compromise and that action must be taken against any negligence or safety lapses.

“I have instructed the plant management and all contractors involved to provide their full cooperation to investigators,” he said in a statement.

He directed them to ensure strict compliance with all safety procedures and equipment maintenance to avert a similar tragedy.

Fadillah gave an assurance that his ministry would continue to oversee the case and would not hesitate to initiate further measures.

He emphasised that worker safety and welfare are paramount, and that every life is invaluable.

He conveyed his deepest sympathy to the families of the two men who lost their lives, Muhammad Alfarid Ahmad, 19, and Muhammad Amaluddin Hisamudin, 22.

“I pray that their families are granted strength and fortitude in facing this profound loss,” he said.

He also prayed for the full and swift recovery of the injured victims.
