Israeli military temporarily suspends strike on Hezbollah target in Lebanon after Lebanese army requests access to the site to address a truce breach
JERUSALEM: The Israeli military said it would “temporarily” suspend a planned strike on Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon.
A warning for an imminent strike in the Yanuh area was issued earlier on Saturday, urging people to evacuate immediately.
Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee later announced the suspension on social media platform X.
He said the suspension came after the Lebanese army “requested access again to the specified site… and to address the breach of the agreement”.
Adraee added that the military “continues to monitor the target” and would “not allow” Hezbollah to “redeploy or rearm”.
A November 2024 ceasefire sought to end over a year of fighting between Israel and the Hezbollah militant group.
The conflict broke out after the start of the Gaza war in October 2023.
Israel has repeatedly bombed Lebanon since the truce, saying it targets Hezbollah members and infrastructure to stop rearming.
A Lebanese security source said the army had previously tried to search the building Israel wanted to target but faced resident objections.
The source told AFP the army entered the building after returning a second time because residents “felt threatened”.
Residents were evacuated over fears of an Israeli strike, the source added.
