US condemns deadly antisemitic attack at Sydney Hanukkah event

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio strongly condemns the terrorist attack at a Jewish festival in Sydney, offering prayers and solidarity with Australia

WASHINGTON: The United States has strongly condemned a deadly terrorist attack at a Hanukkah event in Sydney, Australia.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said antisemitism has no place in the world in a post on social media platform X.

“Our prayers are with the victims of this horrific attack, the Jewish community, and the people of Australia,” Rubio stated.

The State Department later confirmed Rubio held a call with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong to discuss the antisemitic terrorist attack at Sydney’s Bondi Beach.

State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said the US stands in solidarity with the Jewish community and the Australian people.

US President Donald Trump also briefly mentioned the shooting during remarks at a White House Christmas event.

He called it a “terrible attack… an antisemitic attack, obviously.” – AFP
