PETRA encourages cooperatives to participate in large-scale solar farm bidding and community rooftop programmes to boost renewable energy capacity.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) is encouraging all parties, including cooperatives, to participate in solar farm development and community solar programmes.
This initiative supports the government’s commitment to achieving 70% of electricity generation capacity from renewable energy by 2050 under the National Energy Transition Roadmap.
PETRA stated that capable cooperatives are invited to participate in the sixth round of the large-scale solar bidding exercise, known as LSS-6, scheduled for implementation in 2026.
The selection of successful bidders will be based on competitive pricing alongside compliance with prescribed technical and financial requirements.
The ministry was responding to a parliamentary inquiry regarding plans to enable cooperative participation in large-scale solar and community programmes under SEDA.
At the community level, the government has introduced the SELCO and CREAM programmes to expand access to rooftop solar systems in residential areas.
Additionally, the government will introduce a new rooftop solar initiative called the Solar Accelerated Transition Action Programme, or Solar ATAP.
These programmes are expected to spur renewable energy development from solar sources while giving consumers the option to utilise rooftop space for power generation. – Bernama
