The Terengganu state government has requested RM1.5 million in emergency funds from the federal government to repair a collapsed road in Hulu Terengganu
KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu state government has requested an emergency allocation from the federal government to repair a collapsed road near the Sungai Deka Elephant Conservation Centre.
State Infrastructure, Utilities and Rural Development Committee chairman Datuk Hanafiah Mat said the Terengganu Public Works Department (JKR) submitted the request for Jalan Aring 8–Kenyir–Kuala Jeneris.
The repair cost is estimated at RM1.5 million and will include piling work and the construction of temporary diversions.
Hanafiah said the collapse was caused by soil erosion and damage to a culvert structure due to heavy water flow during the Northeast Monsoon.
“The route has been gazetted as closed by the federal government for safety reasons and remains completely closed to all types of vehicles,” he said in a statement.
He confirmed the road closure status is maintained while a Traffic Management Plan, warning signs and diversions are in place.
Continuous monitoring is being carried out by the Hulu Terengganu District JKR in collaboration with Roadcare (M) Sdn Bhd.
Road users are advised to use alternative routes via Jerteh-Machang-Gua Musang or Jerteh-Kuala Krai-Gua Musang.
The road completely collapsed at 7 am yesterday, having initially experienced soil erosion in May. – Bernama
