Steven Sim arrived at the ministry and “clocked-in” after a closed-door briefing with senior ministry officials
PUTRAJAYA: Steven Sim officially began his tenure as Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development today, following the recent Cabinet reshuffle.
Also reporting for duty was Datuk Mohamad Alamin, formerly Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Sim arrived at the ministry and “clocked-in” around 9:13 am, and shortly afterward held a closed-door briefing with senior ministry officials, signaling a prompt start to his new role.
A key figure in the unity government, Sim previously served as Deputy Minister of Finance II and was appointed Minister of Human Resources in December 2023.
During his tenure, he was credited with advancing gig economy reforms and strengthening wage policies, focusing on improved worker protections and income security.
On Dec 16, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced Sim’s transfer to helm the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development.
He takes over from Datuk Ewon Benedick, the Upko president, who resigned in protest over the federal government’s handling of a High Court ruling on Sabah’s 40 % revenue entitlement.
