The National Registration Department (JPN) refutes social media claims of identity misuse, confirming the MyKad number belongs to the deceased and is valid.
PUTRAJAYA: The National Registration Department (JPN) has denied allegations of identity misuse involving the MyKad number of a deceased individual’s father, as claimed in viral social media posts.
JPN stated that a detailed check found the two individuals referenced in the posts are Malaysian citizens with different MyKad numbers.
“The check also found no element of identity misuse, illegal issuance of identification documents, or involvement of foreigners as alleged,” according to the statement.
The issue arose from a viral social media post by an individual claiming their late father’s MyKad number was being used by a foreigner.
The post displayed two different names appearing during a check on the Unclaimed Money Information via the eGUMIS portal of the Accountant General’s Department.
JPN confirmed the MyKad number of the individual’s late father is valid and remains registered under the deceased’s name.
Next-of-kin can obtain official verification at any JPN office.
The department stated a cross-check was conducted to ensure information accuracy and advised the complainant to refer directly to the Unclaimed Money Division for verification and claims.
“The public is advised not to speculate, make baseless accusations, or spread unverified information as it can cause public confusion and concern,” the statement added. – Bernama
