The Malaysia Tahfiz Recognition Standard will be implemented next year to enhance quality and formally recognise huffaz and tahfiz institutions
BAGAN DATUK: The government has launched the Malaysia Tahfiz Recognition Standard (SPTM), which will be implemented in stages beginning next year.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the SPTM aims to enhance the quality of tahfiz education and serve as a formal recognition mechanism for huffaz and tahfiz institutions.
As part of the initiative, the 10 best tahfiz institutions that achieve outstanding performance based on the SPTM criteria will each receive an incentive of RM50,000.
“This is not merely a figure or a monetary reward, but a motivational boost to encourage tahfiz institutions to continuously improve their quality and best practices,” he said.
He added that the goal is for these institutions to become centres of excellence that can serve as models for others in Malaysia.
Ahmad Zahid was speaking at the opening of the 2025 Huffaz Gathering and Nusantara Da’wah Symphony at Masjid Tuminah Hamidi.
Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has highlighted the strengthening of the national tahfiz education ecosystem under the National Tahfiz Education Policy (DPTN).
He stated that 84% of the policy measures under DPTN 1.0 have been coordinated and implemented across tahfiz institutions nationwide.
“Meanwhile, in terms of tahfiz education as a growing education ecosystem, there are currently 1,401 tahfiz institutions involving 10,081 asatizah (teachers) and a total of 61,494 students,” he said.
He was speaking at the Huffaz Gathering here, which was attended by more than 25,000 huffaz and members of the public.
Ahmad Zahid outlined key instruments being strengthened under DPTN 2.0, including the development of the Malaysia Tahfiz Education Model.
These efforts also involve enhancing the Malaysia Tahfiz Certificate and providing a huffaz financing scheme.
The goal is to produce huffaz who are competitive, skilled and relevant to current needs.
He also shared notable achievements of huffaz in higher education institutions.
“I would like to share that at UniKL, 90% of the students in the Faculty of Aerospace are huffaz,” he said.
“Meanwhile, 93% of the students in the Faculty of Marine Engineering have become huffaz.”
At Universiti Tenaga Nasional, 534 huffaz are pursuing engineering programmes, with most achieving a CGPA of 3.5 and above.
The event also saw the signing of 10 strategic Memoranda of Understanding between JAKIM and various state agencies and institutions.
The programmes involved include the Diploma in Tahfiz al-Quran and al-Qiraat and the Graded Memorisation Certificate programme.
The gathering featured a talk by renowned preacher Ustaz Prof Dr Abdul Somad Batubara.
Also present were Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Senator Dr Zulkifli Hasan.
