BUKIT MERTAJAM: Two men have been remanded for four days following a road altercation that was recorded and went viral on social media.
Central Seberang Perai District Police Chief ACP Helmi Aris said his team detected the viral video and confirmed two police reports were lodged by the individuals involved.
Two investigation papers have been opened under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
“Further investigations revealed that the incident occurred on Dec 25, sparked by a misunderstanding between two drivers which led to a verbal dispute and subsequent criminal intimidation,” he said in a statement.
He added that one man acted aggressively by brandishing a hockey stick, though no injuries were reported.
The two men, aged 27 and 44, were detained and their remand was granted until Dec 31 for further investigation.
ACP Helmi Aris advised the public to remain courteous on the road and avoid acting on emotions.
A 37-second viral video showed a dispute between the drivers of a Proton Exora and a Perodua Myvi, with one seen holding a hockey stick.
The incident is believed to have started when the Perodua Myvi driver allegedly made a sudden U-turn, causing dissatisfaction for the Proton Exora driver.
Both parties initially stopped and reached a brief reconciliation before the Myvi driver reportedly asked the Exora driver to stop a second time, triggering the recorded confrontation.
