AC Milan top Serie A after Nkunku’s brace sinks Verona

Christopher Nkunku scores his first Serie A goals to lead AC Milan to a 3-0 win, sending them top as Inter Milan prepare to face Atalanta.

MILAN: Christopher Nkunku ended his Serie A goal drought with a brace, firing AC Milan to the top of the table with a 3-0 victory over Verona at the San Siro.

The France forward doubled Milan’s lead with a penalty two minutes after half-time, his first league goal since February.

He tapped home a third just five minutes later to seal the win and give Milan a two-point lead over local rivals Inter Milan.

Nkunku’s only previous goal for Milan since his RM185 million move from Chelsea came in the Italian Cup back in September.

Christian Pulisic had opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time, prodding home his eighth goal in 11 Serie A appearances this season.

Pulisic has now been involved in 50 Serie A goals since arriving at the club in 2023.

The win was a confident performance against lower-ranked opposition, an area where Massimiliano Allegri’s side has previously struggled this term.

Nkunku’s performance also strengthened his case to lead the line, with Santiago Gimenez injured and Niclas Fullkrug set to arrive from West Ham next month.

Verona, despite winning their previous two matches, remain in the relegation zone, two points from safety.

Inter Milan can reclaim top spot later on Sunday with a win at Atalanta, who have been revitalised under new coach Raffaele Palladino.
