Motorcyclist killed, another injured after hitting cow on AMJ Highway

A motorcyclist died and another was injured after their bikes collided with a cow crossing the AMJ Highway near Serkam, Melaka

JASIN: A motorcyclist was killed and another injured after their motorcycles collided with a cow crossing the Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin (AMJ) Highway.

The accident occurred near Serkam last night, with Jasin police receiving a report around 11 pm.

District police chief Superintendent Lee Robert said both victims, aged 25, were travelling from Merlimau to Jasin in the same direction.

“Initial investigations found that a cow suddenly crossed the road, causing the riders to crash into the animal and lose control,” he said in a statement.

One motorcyclist suffered severe injuries to his body and arms and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other rider sustained facial injuries and was taken to Melaka Hospital for further treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Police urge witnesses or anyone with information to contact investigating officer Inspector Wan Nuralia Asyikin Wan Ibrahim at 011-6464 8182.
