Mohamad Hasan calls on Malaysians overseas to work with embassies to uphold the nation’s image and strengthen international ties.
BANGKOK: Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has reminded Malaysians living abroad to work closely with the country’s embassies to preserve its global image.
He stated that the conduct of Malaysians overseas, combined with the work of diplomatic missions, is crucial for maintaining national reputation and strengthening bilateral cooperation.
“You, as Malaysians in Thailand, play an important role as bridges between Malaysia and Thailand,” he said at the reopening of the Embassy of Malaysia complex.
Mohamad encouraged the community to continue supporting the embassy’s efforts in fostering people-to-people ties.
He officiated the reopening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside his wife and Malaysia’s Ambassador to Thailand Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah.
The minister emphasised that a well-equipped mission is essential for effective diplomacy, especially in a key partner nation like Thailand.
He praised the embassy staff for their dedication and professionalism throughout the refurbishment process.
“The refurbished chancery reflects the Foreign Ministry’s continued commitment to ensuring our diplomatic missions operate in a modern and efficient environment,” Mohamad added.
He described embassy staff as frontline representatives entrusted with safeguarding national interests and assisting Malaysians abroad.
The embassy serves as a vital platform for advancing bilateral ties and fostering closer understanding between Malaysia and Thailand.
In 2024, Thailand was Malaysia’s seventh-largest global trading partner and third-largest within ASEAN, with total trade reaching RM114.56 billion.
Bilateral trade from January to October 2025 amounted to RM98.19 billion, showing an increase from RM95.52 billion in the same period of 2024.
