MACC identifies more suspects in army procurement corruption case

The MACC has identified other individuals linked to a senior army officer’s procurement case, with asset freezing underway and investigations ongoing.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has identified several other individuals suspected of involvement in a corruption case linked to army procurement projects.

The case involves a senior Army officer, who remains the main suspect.

The MACC stated that further action will be taken based on the investigation’s findings and evidence gathered.

The commission confirmed the main suspect is still receiving medical treatment and his full statement has not yet been recorded.

“The MACC respects the individual’s health aspects and rights in accordance with legal provisions and will take his statement as soon as he is confirmed well by medical officials,” it said in a statement.

It added that no time limit has been set for the investigation, as its duration depends on the case’s complexity, number of witnesses, and required document and financial analysis.

The MACC also confirmed that asset tracking and freezing procedures are currently underway.

It did not disclose the value of the assets or bank accounts involved, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

“The MACC stresses that the investigation is being conducted transparently, professionally and in accordance to the law without any interference,” the commission said.

It further warned that the commission will not compromise with any form of corruption and stern action will be taken against any party found involved.
