PSM assures no repeat of roof leaks at Axiata Arena

Malaysia Stadium Corporation confirms roof repairs at Axiata Arena are complete, with tests conducted to prevent leaks and condensation issues during upcoming tournaments.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Stadium Corporation (PSM) has given assurances that the leaking roof and condensation problems that plagued the Axiata Arena during previous badminton tournaments will not recur this year.

PSM chief executive officer Ilyas Jamil confirmed the replacement of the old roof at the Bukit Jalil venue is fully complete. He said several tests have already been conducted ahead of the Malaysia Open 2026, which begins on Tuesday.

“The roof repair works are complete,” he told Bernama. He explained that the issue during last year’s Malaysia Masters was due to condensation, but necessary steps have been taken to prevent a repeat.

“Insya Allah, we carried out testing a few weeks ago and we are confident the same issue will not occur this year,” Ilyas added.

Last year, the arena’s roof leaked during the first round of the 2025 Malaysia Open. This caused water droplets to enter the venue and forced several matches to be temporarily halted.

A similar issue occurred during the Malaysia Masters, although it was attributed to condensation rather than a structural leak.
