RM50 million boost for Tamil schools signals inclusive education push

The RM50 million allocation for Tamil schools underscores the government’s commitment to inclusive education and addressing long-standing infrastructure issues.

KUALA LUMPUR: The RM50 million allocation for the maintenance of National-Type Tamil Schools (SJKTs) demonstrates the government’s commitment to inclusive and balanced education.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the funding for schools facing issues with dilapidated facilities.

Malaysian Tamil Schools Welfare and Educational Development Association’s Vetrivelan Mahalingam said over 100 SJKTs face critical challenges, including urgent relocation needs.

“We respectfully appeal to the Prime Minister to consider approving the relocation of at least five SJKT to areas with high concentrations of the Indian population,” he said in a Facebook post.

He believes comprehensive reforms and cooperation can address long-standing issues for present and future generations.

Mahalingam also expressed readiness to collaborate with ministers Gobind Singh Deo and Datuk Seri R Ramanan for effective implementation.
