Vijay’s Jana Nayagan postponed worldwide over CBFC delay

Vijay’s Jana Nayagan faces a worldwide delay after CBFC clearance issues, leaving fans awaiting a new release date

TAMIL actor Vijay’s (pic) highly anticipated film Jana Nayagan has been postponed worldwide after failing to secure clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Confirming the development, KVN Productions announced on X last night that the film’s release in India has been officially deferred, just two days before its scheduled theatrical debut on January 9.

“We deeply understand the anticipation, excitement and emotions surrounding this film, and this decision has not been an easy one for any of us. The new release date will be announced at the earliest,” the statement read.

“Until then, we humbly request your patience and continued love. Your unwavering support is our greatest strength and means everything to the entire Jana Nayagan team.”

Following the announcement, Malik Streams Corporation, the film’s Malaysian distributor, confirmed that the local release has also been affected.

“We are currently awaiting further updates from the production team. Once the new release date is confirmed, official announcements will be shared through our authorised platforms,” the distributor said, urging fans to remain united and handle the situation calmly and responsibly while awaiting a positive resolution.

The postponement comes despite overwhelming fan enthusiasm. Last Tuesday, TGV Cinemas revealed that more than 80,000 tickets had been pre-sold, underscoring the massive hype surrounding the film, which has been widely touted as Vijay’s final project before he shifts focus to his political journey with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

However, no updates regarding ticket refunds have been announced so far.

On Wednesday, the Madras High Court reserved its order on the film’s release and instructed the CBFC to form a fresh committee to review the film, NDTV reported.

The producers had moved the court after Jana Nayagan failed to obtain its censor certificate despite being submitted over a month ago, with the board suggesting cuts and muted dialogues on December 19.

With certification still pending, the release has now been pushed indefinitely, leaving fans anxiously awaiting further clarity.

Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani and Narain.
