BEIJING: The Chinese next-of-kin of passengers on board the ill-fated Malaysia Airlines (MAS) MH370 aircraft, who staged a silent sit-in protest in front of the Malaysian Embassy here since about 11.30 last night, have appealed for food aid from good Samaritans on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo.
"We have been sitting at the embassy here all night, everyone is exhausted, but no food is given to the families.
"We need food aid from some good Samaritans or organisations, thank you everyone, please contact: (+86)15501262561," a committee representing the Chinese families posted a message on its official Weibo account about noon Friday.
However, not every netizen supports the move.
A Weibo user commented: "This is not an effective way to make a demand (for something), sympathy but not support."
One asked ironically: "Isn't there a family committee?".
Some even suggested the families call for delivery service.
Most netizens however, are supportive of the families whom most have encouraged to stay strong.
The police and security guards cordoned off the streets in the vicinity of the Malaysian Embassy here since last night when some 50 angry Chinese families staged a silent sit-in in front of the embassy to express discontent over a no-show by embassy representative at the daily briefing.
In fact, two embassy officers are on stand-by daily at the MAS command centre of the Lido Hotel.
Meanwhile, MAS issued a notification letter to the families that the daily regular briefing at 3pm at the hotel was called off today, without elaboration. – Bernama
