Pandelela escapes unhurt in road mishap

PETALING JAYA: National diver, Pandelela Rinong (pix), escaped unharmed when she hit a road divider while trying to avoid another car which came into her lane at Jalan Mahameru, early today morning.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police investigation and regulation officer DSP S. Markandan said she was heading to Bukit Jalil from Sentul at about 1am in her car when the accident happened.
Pandelela is the first female Malaysian athlete to win a medal at the Olympics, as well as the first to win an Olympic medal in any sport other than Badminton, when she took the bronze in the 10m diving event at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
Markandan said initial investigations revealed that another car suddenly swerved into her lane and in her bid to avoid hitting the vehicle, she lost control and rammed into the road divider and a signboard.
The impact of the accident, he added, had resulted in her car being badly damaged.
It is learnt Pandelela was returning home after having dinner with friends when the mishap happened.
