MAHB to issue CPC for klia2 by year-end

SEPANG: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is expected to issue a Certificate of Practical Completion (CPC) for the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) terminal by year-end, said Managing Director Datuk Badlisham Ghazali.
Badlisham noted that the outstanding CPC for the terminal was delayed due to rectification of small defects such as cracks on the pipes in the restroom, and not due to safety issues.
"A few obligations need to be fulfilled before we consider it as fully accomplished, but they are not major changes.
"I can say that 97% of the klia2 project has been done accordingly by the contractors, while the 3% are minimal changes," he told reporters on a media tour of klia2 yesterday.
"It is uncommon to get a Certificate of Compliance (CCC) before the CPC, but it is possible, and it does not mean that it is not safe for passengers," he said.
On the rectification works, he noted that the airport operator is progressively monitoring the issues related to cracks and water ponding problems in the apron, runway and taxiway and associated movement area as well as rectification works at klia2.
"We acknowledge there will be on-going settlement anticipated at klia2 and we will address it from time to time," he said, adding under International Civil Aviation Organisation guidelines, the acceptable rate of soil settlement is 1-2.5 cm.
MAHB is undertaking a special maintenance programme comprising short- and long-term solutions that include routine patching works and resurfacing or overlay works and the construction of concrete slabs at the affected parking aprons and taxiways, he added. – Bernama
