BENTONG: Berjaya Hills management today baked a 90.8m long Christmas stollen, breaking the Dutch official record.
Berjaya Hills Manager Teh Ming Wah said the previous Guinness World book of record was 72.1m, by the Dutch on Dec 10, 2010.
Stollen is a traditional German cake, usually eaten during the Christmas season. It is also famous in Colmar, France as the region borders Germany.
Among the ingredients of a stollen is flour, marzipan and dried fruits with butter and eggs.
"This time around, we have the privilege of having Chef Daniel Helmstetter who is originally from Colmar village in France to bake it for us," Teh Ming said at a press conference at the Colmar Tropicale here today.
Among others who assisted Daniel were his wife Alsace Marie and 6 Malaysian bakers.
"The most difficult part in baking the longest stollen is to maintain the taste consistency," Daniel said.
Daniel added, it took the team three days to bake 180 stollens with each measuring up to 50cm before lining them up.
The idea to break the record is to promote Christmas in Malaysia and to distribute the cake to charities such as old folks home, orphanages, government agencies and also to the resort visitors.
"We will sell some of them and give the profit to charity," Teh said.
Malaysian book of Records representative Suhaila Shamsuddin was present to measure the stollen.
The data recorded by Malaysian Book of Records will be submitted to Guinness World Records before it can be officially announced as a record breaker.
