Police seize contraband ciggies worth RM800,000

JOHOR BARU: Police here have foiled a smuggling attempt and seized 400 boxes of contraband cigarettes worth RM800,000.
Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar MohdSharif told a press conference today that a police team from the Johor narcotics unit, acting on a tip-off, stopped a lorry at a junction at Km41.5 on the Johor Baru-Mersing road.
Police also stopped a car which was escorting the lorry. The drivers of both vehicles, aged 25 and 32, were detained and are being remanded for further investigations.
Preliminary checks revealed that one of them has a criminal record.
