Govt will support education sector, says PM

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will continue to support efforts in enhancing the education sector, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
In his opening speech during the 15th anniversary celebration of the Cheras Education Foundation (YPC) at Berjaya Times Square Hotel, he also commended YPC chairman Datuk Seri Syed Ali Alhabshee for his efforts in establishing the foundation and focusing his efforts on education for the benefit of the Cheras community.
He said the Cheras Umno division, of which Syed Ali is chief, had done well in creating a joint-venture degree programme between its Kolej YPC and Liverpool John Moores University in the UK.
Najib later announced that SMK Cheras would be allocated RM100,000 to send some of its pupils to Turkey for a cultural performance.
He also presented "Best Teacher Award" certificates, a Samsung Tab 4 and RM1,000 each to 37 teachers as appreciation for their dedication.
Five other teachers received the "Education Development Award", while another two received the "Leadership Award" and one teacher received the "Special Education Chairman Award".
Four schools were presented with special parent-teacher awards.
The event was also attended by Berjaya Corporation Berhad founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, Agriculture and Agro-based minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Education Minister II Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh.
