Rafizi claims Najib has new jet

KUALA LUMPUR: Has the prime minister acquired a new jet for official overseas trips?
PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli seems to think so when he issued a statement today alleging that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak has just acquired a new private jet while Malaysians have been struggling with prices going up and subsidy cuts.
Rafizi also enclosed an agreement dated Dec 1, 2014 between the PM's department and Jet Premier One (Malaysia), which also manages Najib's private jet ACJ319, on the new acquisition.
In November 2013, the Prime Minister's Department, in a reply in the Dewan Rakyat, said that Putrajaya already has at least six private jets, including a Boeing Business Jet.
"This new jet under the registration 9H-AWK comes complete with the 1Malaysia logo. The existing jet NACJ319 costs RM28.8 million annually in rentals and RM5.5 million for maintenance. While the people have to face the new Goods and Services Tax (GST) in two weeks time, Putrajaya continues its wastage of funds. Especially when the country is still in shock over 1MDB," he said in the statement.
"Buying a new jet at this point in time would definitely incur the people's anger when they are burdened with GST that would be partially used to pay for the Prime Minister's new jet," he added.
Rafizi called on Najib to cancel this new purchase and apologise to the people for not putting their needs first.
