VARANASI: The world's first solar-powered aircraft will land in northern Indian city of Varanasi on Wednesday as part of its maiden global journey.
The Solar Impulse-2 will land at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Babatpur near here, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.
"The plane took off after a two hours' delay from its scheduled time from Ahmedabad today. We are expecting it to reach here at around 9pm this evening," said Varanasi Airport director S. K. Malik.
The plane will first hover over the Ganga river to spread the message of cleanliness and clean energy before arriving at the airport.
Malik will welcome project co-founder and pilot Andre Borschberg and co-pilot Bertrand Piccard at the airport.
The SI-2 is scheduled to fly to Myanmar, China and the US in its next destinations. – Bernama
