PAS ready to cut ties with PKR

PETALING JAYA: PAS says it is ready to sever ties with PKR should the latter join the new opposition coalition which consists of DAP and Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB).
In a report by Mingguan Malaysia, PAS spiritual leader Datuk Dr Haron Din said PKR's current stand on the new opposition coalition shows that the party wants to break ranks with PAS.
He said PAS will not object to the formation of the new coalition.
"With that decision being made (PKR forging a new alliance with DAP and GHB), the relationship between PAS and PKR will become invalid; both parties will each walk different paths.
"If they decided to form the new coalition, I could only say good luck to them," the Malay daily quoted Haron as saying today.
PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said in a statement recently that he anticipated a new coalition, which would consist of all opposition progressive factions, including The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0), The Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (Abim), Pertubuhan Ikram Malaysia (Ikram) and GHB.
Meanwhile, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang stressed that PAS will not be in the new coalition, saying the Islamist opposition party had caused Pakatan Rakyat to break up.
However, Haron said Pakatan started to crack after DAP had decided to sever ties with PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and DAP Sarawak pulled out of the state opposition coalition.
"It is important for me to stressed this as people tend to have the perception that PAS caused the coalition disintegrate," Haron said.
