Friends, relatives of Kevin Morais attend memorial service

KUALA LUMPUR: Friends and relatives of the late deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Anthony Kevin Morais were seen gathered at St Joseph's Catholic Church at Jalan Sentul here this evening for the mass memorial.
The memorial, which began at 6pm with prayers and hymns, was also attended by Batu MP Tian Chua.
According to obituary announcement, the funeral will be held on Oct 3 at Church of the Divine Mercy in Shah Alam.
Today is the third day, and last day, of the wake service, although the remains of the late DPP are still at National Institute of Forensics Medicine of Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).
Last Saturday, the results of chemistry and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) tests done on a body discovered in a cement-filled oil drum, matched that of Morais'.
Morais, 55, was abducted on Sept 4 while he was on the way to his office in Putrajaya from his home in Menara Duta, Kuala Lumpur. He was in a government-issued grey Proton Perdana bearing the registration number WA6264Q.
The motive behind his murder is believed to be to silence him over an ongoing corruption case he was handling that involved the alleged misappropriation of funds in the acquisition of medical equipment for a military hospital.
Morais was abducted and killed before his body was covered in a sack and stuffed into an oil drum filled with wet concrete.
To date, police have detained 11 individuals, including a military doctor, to facilitate investigations in connection with his murder.
