KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has contacted the lawyer of businessman Low Taek Jho, popularly known as Jho Low (pix), to assist with investigations into former 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) subsidiary, SRC International.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Senator Datuk Paul Low Seng Kuan said MACC had contacted the lawyer to set a date to record Jho Low's statement.
"However, MACC could not reveal the contents of the discussion so that it does not affect the ongoing investigation," Low said in a written reply to a question posed by Jeff Ooi Chuan Aun (DAP-Jelutong).
Ooi had asked about MACC's progress in getting Jho Low to assist with investigations into SRC.
On Nov 17, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the police could not trace the whereabouts of five individuals related to the 1MDB investigation, including Jho Low, as there was no request made to Interpol.
Low said MACC is not investigating issues related to 1MDB following the division of duties set by the Attorney-General.
"Investigations into 1MDB is under the jurisdiction of the police. MACC only conducts investigation on SRC International and the RM2.6 billion donation to the Prime Minister," he added.
