Najib to use AG, MACC statements

KUALA LUMPUR: Statements by the Attorney-General and Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission will be included by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak in his suit against Harakah and Harakahdaily.
The statements had cleared him (Najib) from any criminal wrongdoing concerning the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and the RM2.6 billion donation.
The prime minister had filed the defamation suit on March 18 last year against Harakah managing director and writer Dr Rosli Yaakop and Harakahdaily portal editor-in-chief Taufek Yahya over an article on 1MDB and Najib's stepson Riza Aziz.
Najib's lawyer Datuk Mohd Hafarizam Harun said he had been instructed to amend the writ of summons and statement of claim to include statements by the AG and the MACC.
He said he had been instructed by the court to put in an application to amend the writ and statement of claim as soon as possible for it to be heard.
"The court would also be giving further directions on the case," he said after the matter came up for case management in the chambers of judge Datuk Hue Siew Kheng today, adding that the final case management is fixed for March 9.
Najib is suing Harakah and Harakahdaily in his personal capacity.
In his suit the prime minister said the Feb 19, 2015 article contained defamatory words against him that implied he had abused his power to obtain wealth from a questionable source.
Najib is seeking an apology, damages and an injunction to prevent the defendants from further discussing or publishing the defamatory article either orally, in print or on the Internet.
