IPOH: Puspakom's Mobile Inspection Unit will extend its services to the northern region in the states of Perak, Perlis, Penang and Kedah to save costs and time.
Its Head of Operations for Liaison and Advisory Department Datuk Ooi Win Juat said the mobile unit will be stationed at the Mak Mandin Puspakom centre in Penang and operators can make an appointment for the services beginning April 1.
"The service is at your doorstep compared to making visits to Puspakom branches.
"This will cut down queues, time, transportation costs and other hidden costs," he said after a briefing to media representatives on the mobile services today.
The Mobile Inspection Unit is a trailer and truck transformed into a self contained remote Puspakom inspection centre for rural areas and companies with a fleet of vehicles.
The mobile unit offers all types of inspections including mandatory inspection for vehicles whose road tax have expired for more than a year, new or used imported vehicles, interchange of registration number plates, transfer of ownership, routine and auction inspection.
Currently six units are operating in the Klang Valley, Kuantan and Johor Bharu since 1998.
The unit has the capability to handle 60 vehicles per-visit. Each vehicle will be charged RM60 excluding inspection fees of between RM55 to RM75 and the Goods and Service Tax.
